Morning routine || Fall Edition

I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning

Hey, hi, hello there guys! What's up and welcome back to another post! (Two in a row? On a schedule? Who is this new person?)

Since it is fall, and fall is my favorite season, I decided to start a mini September series, where I write things... But in fall edition.. What rich content! Anyways, enough with the self-deprecating jokes, I am really excited for the season, and somehow whenever fall rolls into our lives, I get super excited and I polish up all of my routines and habits for the season!

I honestly don't think I've ever had an intentional morning routine before this year. Why I said intentional is because we do have routines, but it depends on whether we're doing the things that we chose to do or we're doing the things just because. I am a firm believer that routines *need* to be intentional, so that you get sh*t done! So, if this sounds like something you might enjoy reading, then grab a cup of happy brew and keep on readin'!

My morning routine || Fall Edition

▪ Set wake-up time

I don't want to be that person, but sadly I am that person. I am someone who needs a set sleep schedule, otherwise I am either not functional throughout the day or I sleep way too much for my needs and then wake up feeling like I've been hit by a bus. On a train. With a truck being towed on the back of the train.
That said, I give my best (and most often succeed) to get to bed at 10 PM and to wake up at 6 AM. It's like I am a child, I know, but I feel the best when I am working like this.
Plus, waking up at 6 gives me plenty of time to work on my own things before I start work
Try to set a sleeping-waking up schedule for yourself. See how much time you need to sleep, and fit the time block in your schedule. Being mindful of your sleeping habits helps you improve multiple areas of your life, from work to personal!

▪ Water first, then everything else

After doing the things in the bathroom (like every normal human does), I drink a huge cup of water in the morning. I don't necessarily like it, but it's something that I know is good for me. Then I drink my coffee and I slowly allow myself to wake up.
Try to incorporate your own first-thing-in-the-morning ritual. You have to have something that just makes you feel excited to wake up. For me that is coffee, for you it can be something else!

▪ Positive, intentional habits

Most of the people I know do just whatever feels easy in the morning. Those things might be mindlessly staring at the TV, or scrolling through social media. Hell, some people decide to start work right in the morning! How they do that, I have no clue, but still... They exist.

For me, the biggest game changer was to lower my scrolling time. To change the habit, any habit, you need to substitute it with something else that you also find pleasant but that is better for you.

It's sounds complicated, but it's not, I swear.
Think of some hobbies that you might enjoy and that aren't too complicated to do in the morning.

For me, reading while drinking coffee is what gets me going for the day.
Most of the times I read one fiction and one non-fiction in a month. I use my Kindle and it allows my brain to start working in a productive and happy mode.
With social media, it's a bit tricky. You start your day off with something that makes you judge yourself, something that stresses you out. Same thing goes with work, or TV.
Try incorporating some habits that make you feel good such as drawing, reading, journaling, praying or anything that makes you feel positive and motivated to start your day!

▪ Movement

This is a thing I am still heavily working on. I am trying super hard to adopt the habit of stretching in the morning. My job starts at 9AM, and from that point all the way to 4PM, I don't move. I sit in my chair and that is something that has been bugging me since I started working.
My back hurts, my knees are sore, I feel stiff and I feel older than I am.
For that reason I want to start moving consistently in the morning.
I try to do at least 15 minutes of yoga before work (or at least that is something that stands on the to-do list...)

Try incorporating some sort of movement- whether it's full blown workout, dance session, yoga or anything. Your body will thank you for it!

▪ Get ready

Even though most of people work outside, in an office, some of us work from home as well. Regardless, you should always get ready for your work portion of the day.
It can be as minimal as brushing your teeth and putting on pants, or as extra as doing a full face of make up and putting on your best outfit.
I always try to do some minimal make up and to wear nice (but comfy!) clothes. I work with little children, so it's important for me to not look tired. To achieve this it's usually enough for me to put on some concealer, mascara, lipstick and to do my brows.
Try to put in a bit more effort in the way that you look. It will make a mindset shift. where you will feel better about yourself and therefore be lots more productive

▪ Prepare planner and mind for the day

In this part of my morning routine, I sit down at my work station and go over my daily schedule for the day. I look at what I need to do at home, what I need to do for my blog and if I have any social obligations that day (i.e. a coffee date with a friend, or a date night with my partner).
I also have a separate planner for my work, where I just write down the kids I am working with today and the lessons we are covering. I prepare that the night before, so I go over the work schedule at this time as well.
Try to write out your to-do list the night before. Then, in the morning, instead of wandering aimlessly and not having a clue as to what needs to be done, you will know for sure everything that is due that day. Plus, it's less stressful like this, and who doesn't want less stress?

There you have it, my every day morning routine for fall. It's not really fall themed, but I try to change up things with the changes of the seasons.

Do you have a morning routine? Also, would you like to see my night routine as well?
